Abstract
This IDC Perspective addresses outdated savings strategies that are disconnected with agency program and business needs; these strategies are starting to backfire across most vertical industries including government. Progressive innovation leaders are now forming risk-sharing outcomes-based relationships with their vendors/partners to build synergies and encourage innovation to solve complex program and services business problems. This study examines the trend to drive innovation and savings by forming strategic partnerships with select vendors, describes several types of risk-sharing agreements, and provides actionable guidance to government CIOs and technology sourcing executives on forging successful, value-added risk-sharing relationships.
"'Savings at all cost' is the new reality for many government technology sourcing executives who don't look beyond outdated sourcing strategies," says Thom Rubel, adjunct research advisor for IDC's IT Executive Programs.
