Worldwide Enterprise External OEM Storage Systems Market Spending showed a solid 9.7% growth in Q2 2024 and is expected to grow an average of 4.3% over a 5-year period, according to IDC
The external OEM enterprise storage systems (ESS) market reported annual growth of 9.7% in the second quarter of the year, a noticeable and expected increase from a low single-digit annual growth in the previous quarter. IDC expects that the market will continue rebounding for rest of the year from weakened sales of 2023 driven by solid market trends.
Positive developments and drivers for growing demand include increasing demand for flash storage (typically, all-flash arrays) to support projects related to artificial intelligence, both for training and inferencing; increasing demand for flash media across both external storage systems and servers that will lead to slow down if not increase in storage media costs; overall pent-up demand after a period of slowdown in investments during the previous year; growing demand for dedicated infrastructure as a service solutions. IDC’s primary research suggests that availability of dedicated IaaS solutions is now one of the important reasons companies repatriate or plan to repatriate some of their workloads from shared cloud to dedicated IT environments.
