Abstract

This IDC Survey details results from IDC’s 2024 U.S. Data Utilization Survey, which was fielded in August 2024. The survey asked respondents questions regarding the ways in which organizations generate, collect, use, and store digital data. This IDC Survey document focuses on aspects of the survey related to the adoption of generative AI (GenAI) and its impact on data volumes and storage needs.

"Survey results indicate that the rapid adoption of generative AI tools across U.S. organizations is starting to reshape the data landscape, with respondents reporting that data volumes and storage needs are already increasing," said Adam Wright, research manager for IDC’s Smart Home and Office Devices program. "As these tools become further entrenched, their impact on data generation and storage needs is expected to escalate over the next several years, underscoring the need for scalable infrastructure solutions to support this growth."
