Abstract
This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation provides tech leaders with steps and goals for IT in corporate sustainability. Technology has a dual role to play in sustainability. Most ESG measures, intelligence, and reporting can't happen without the processing power, sensors, data, analytics, and forecasting guided by IT organizations. On the other hand, technology itself must be managed for its role in emissions creation and resource drain. The guide outlines a path for managing varied stakeholder requirements and ESG goals and aligning them with strategic corporate and IT goals.
Worldwide, organizations are feeling the pressure to respond to changing sustainability requirements and new regulatory environments. Overall, organizations are maturing in their sustainable transformation journey but need guidance on how to best leverage technology and generate value. Maturing IT sustainability is a critical enabler for that transformation and value generation.
"The threat posed by neglecting sustainability as a top agenda item is an existential one," said Bjoern Stengel, global sustainability research lead, Sustainable Strategies and Technologies at IDC. "Sustainability is front of mind for the highest levels of the organization, and technology leaders are key enablers to orchestrate sustainability initiatives across the business."
