This IDC study provides market share data for the server OS market for new licenses, subscriptions, and deployments for each major platform in CY23. It also provides revenue market share data for select commercial server OS suppliers.
"Surely, the server operating system environments market in 2023 was dynamic," said Greg Macatee, research manager, Infrastructure Software Platforms Group at IDC. "Net-new shipments into the installed base took a turn for the worse compared with what we have seen over the past few years while revenue continued to grow. Looking ahead, we anticipate prolonged investment into server OS platforms as buyers ready themselves to undertake AI initiatives and deploy other performance-rich workloads."
