Abstract

This IDC Survey draws on data from IDC's 2024 Worldwide Future of Work Survey, highlighting responses from 1,269 professionals across the North America, EMEA, and APAC regions. It covers over 18 industries and respondents from distinct roles including HR, IT, and LOB functions. This survey was designed to understand leaders' perspective on the trends, challenges, and investments around skills shortages and flexible work models.

With widening talent shortages, a quarter of HR leaders report extreme levels of difficulty in securing HR talent. 41% of HR leaders experience gap in human skills in their organization. HR leaders are deploying flexible work models to attract and retain top talent.

"Organizations worldwide continue to struggle with widening skills shortages in all regions and sectors," says Gina Smith, PhD, research director, IT Skills for Digital Business practice at IDC. "Automation is helping reshape job requirements, technology adoption, and skills requirements within flexible work models."
