Abstract

This IDC Survey examines the results of the 2024 IDC Energy Insights' Global Utilities and Oil and Gas Survey, specifically for energy and water plant and network operators globally regarding their IT investment direction.

IDC Energy Insights' 2024 Global Utilities and Oil and Gas Survey is a landmark study that covers utilities around the world. It was run between November 2023 and January 2024. The survey covered 600 respondents, of which 418 are utilities respondents from the following countries: the U.K., the Nordics, the Netherlands, DACH, Spain, France, Poland, Italy, Romania, Turkey, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Nigeria, the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Colombia, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.

This study analyzes select data for 373 energy and water plant and network operators around the world. It covers the IT investment direction section of the survey, analyzing aspects such as:

• Challenges to technology innovation
• IT budget allocation
• Change in external IT budgets
• IT budget control between the IT department and the line of business departments
• IT solution investment trends
