Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight highlights results from the following two questions posed to 476 respondents and firms with 1,000+ employees across 5 countries, and several major industries, as part of IDC's 2023 Worldwide Managed Services Survey: "Public Cloud Providers. Does your company/organization view public cloud providers (e.g., Amazon, Google, Microsoft Azure, salesforce.com, workday, and ServiceNow) as potential substitutes for utilizing managed services? And Cloud Platforms as Substitutes: In which of the following areas would your company/organization consider using self-service cloud platforms (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) from different types of cloud providers (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google, salesforce.com, Workday, ServiceNow, Adobe) as a substitute for utilizing managed services as a means of supporting your needs when using cloud capabilities."

This IDC Survey Spotlight then assesses the impact of these enterprise priorities in utilizing public cloud as a potential substitute for managed cloud services and highlights how managed SPs need to emphasize role as "general contractor" using a "systems-centric structure," build a robust governance structure, highlight ability to deliver on a new operating model, pursue new business models around multiplatform management, and restructure sales to support channel options.
