Abstract
This IDC Perspective discusses the different types of AI — predictive, interpretive, and generative — and their impact on data connectivity needs. It highlights the importance of understanding these categories to maximize value from AI investments using data from IDC's September 2023 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, Wave 8, as well as IDC's August 2023 GenAI ARC Survey. Despite the hype around generative AI, more investments are planned in interpretive AI and predictive AI due to their proven value.
