Abstract

This IDC Survey summarizes findings from IDC's 3Q24 U.S. Gamer Survey as it relates to current user engagement and satisfaction by console SKU or family. The demographics of console gamers are considered, as are a range of gaming-related activities associated with Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch OLED, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 Standard Edition, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, and PlayStation 4 users.

This survey identifies the factors that are influencing console bundle buying decisions this holiday season by SKU or family. In the console buying factor section, for example, the top 5 considerations that prospective buyers are weighing in relation to the new digital Xbox Series X and the new digital Sony PlayStation 5 Pro console bundles are examined.

"It's clear that demand for Switch family hardware in 4Q24 will be significantly lower than last year and that the Switch family is generally underperforming its historical norms. Conversely, Xbox's and Sony's refreshed midcycle hardware should experience healthy demand this holiday season, and their prospective buyers are scouring their hardware specs and double-checking their game catalogs." — Lewis Ward, IDC's Research Director of XR, Gaming, and Interactive 3D Software
