Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight provides insights from IDC's Global GenAI Awareness, Readiness, and Commitment (ARC) Survey conducted in August to investigate how IT and business leaders in enterprises around the world are assessing generative AI's (GenAI's) potential impacts on their organizations in the next 18 months. It explores enterprise leaders' GenAI road map plans as well as the potential challenges and risks that GenAI poses for organizations.

In 2023, a new chapter of the digital business era started: AI everywhere. The dramatic increase in awareness of generative AI triggered the dawn of this new chapter because it promises to drastically reduce the time and costs associated with a wide range of customer- and employee-facing use cases linked to automation and intelligence. This new chapter is changing our relationship with content as well as how we extract value from structured and unstructured data.

In this IDC Survey Spotlight, IDC finds that, when it comes to developing differentiating GenAI capabilities for their business, organizations highly rank a "full stack of AI services" from cloud providers over the next 18 months. This is particularly true for organizations that have already invested heavily in GenAI, where full-stack AI services rank top. Ease of data repository integration across hybrid cloud/multicloud architectures ranks high among those testing GenAI models and building out proof of concepts, demonstrating the importance of the DBaaS areas of cloud platform services when it comes to gaining value from GenAI. In total, IDC research shows that AI of all types, including generative AI, represents a strong and growing center of gravity in the PaaS market.
