Abstract

This IDC Survey provides key findings from IDC's Global GenAI Awareness, Readiness, and Commitment (ARC) Survey and is the first in a series of IDC documents based on the Global GenAI ARC Survey that will investigate the implications of GenAI across regions, technologies, and industries.

In 2023, a new chapter of the digital business era started: AI everywhere. The dramatic increase in the awareness of generative AI (GenAI) triggered the dawn of this new chapter because it promises to drastically reduce the time and costs associated with a wide range of customer- and employee-facing use cases linked to automation and intelligence. This new chapter is changing our relationship with content as well as how we extract value from structured and unstructured data.

Most organizations (60%) are still in the GenAI exploration phase, preparing for rather than making direct investments in technologies and model building. The 21% of respondents that are already making significant investments in GenAI are driving current product/service developments across the IT industry. 80% of all organizations believe that GenAI is already disrupting or will soon disrupt their businesses.

The survey of 1,363 IT leaders in North America, Asia/Pacific, and EMEA was conducted in August 2023 while IT teams were deeply engaged in accessing the implications of GenAI for their organizations and working on their road maps through 2024.
