This IDC Survey Spotlight answers the following questions: What do software developers, database professionals, and data scientists say are the top barriers to GenAI, and which are the most strategic technology partners for GenAI?
Software developers and data professionals, including data scientists, are key personas in making AI work for their organizations. This IDC Survey Spotlight provides insights on these personas from IDC's July 2023 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, Wave 6, on the top barriers to using generative AI (GenAI), as well as early decisions related to strategic GenAI partners.
While GenAI is quickly gaining the attention of technology and business leaders worldwide, security tops the list of concerns cited by both software developers and data professionals.
Finding a suitable partner was not cited as a top barrier, but a widely preferred partner has not yet emerged to the top. Public cloud providers and IT consulting providers are the most frequently mentioned, but, especially for developers, digital infrastructure providers and enterprise application providers were also notably cited for the roles they will play in targeted use cases.
