Abstract

This IDC TechBrief looks at the reasons for adopting cyber-risk quantification (CRQ) and the potential improvements it could bring to an organization's understanding of cyber-risk. CRQ platforms can help translate cyber-risk scores in cybersecurity tools into financial terms that are understood throughout an organization.

"By calculating the probability and potential damage from a cyberattack, CRQ platforms help the CISO communicate why the organization is spending some amount of money on cybersecurity," says Michelle Abraham, research director, Security and Trust at IDC. "Furthermore, the CRQ data can be used to determine the next worthwhile cybersecurity investment, based on the financial amount of risk the new cybersecurity tool will mitigate."
