Abstract
This IDC Market Presentation uses data from IDC's 2023 Service Provider View Survey, which collects responses from 400 IT decision makers and line-of-business (LOB) leaders at tier 2 and tier 3 cloud service providers — aka the "long tail."
This presentation is one of the first published deliverables to IDC's new Service Provider Adoption Trends and Strategies CIS. IDC's Service Provider Adoption Trends and Strategies CIS analyzes the current strategies, service offerings, suppliers, partner ecosystems, and investment intentions of tier 2 and tier 3 cloud service providers of varying types, including managed service providers (SPs), systems integrators (SIs), independent software vendors (ISVs), infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) providers, platform-as-a-service (PaaS) providers, and others globally.
The presentation provides deeper insight into how tier 2 and tier 3 service providers measure up in terms of their progress toward environmentally sustainable business models and practices. Just 9% of the service providers surveyed in IDC's Service Provider View Survey say they have goals to become net zero, with a further 11% revealing that they have strong targets for sustainability but currently have no plans to be net zero. The presentation also shows that service provider sustainability initiatives are influenced by a range of factors, which include national, regional, or industry-specific regulations; the expectations of customers and investment and ecosystem partners; and the desire to achieve more efficient operations, improved cost efficiencies, or a higher return on investment. The presentation also looks at the use of tools for reporting on sustainability and the impact of service provider sustainability strategies on the wider partner and supplier ecosystem.
