Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight uses data from IDC's 2023 Service Provider View Survey, which collects responses from 400 IT decision makers and line-of-business (LOB) leaders at tier 2 and tier 3 cloud service providers — aka the "long tail." This IDC Survey Spotlight is one of the first published deliverables to IDC's new Service Provider Adoption Trends and Strategies CIS.
IDC's Service Provider Adoption Trends and Strategies CIS analyzes the current strategies, service offerings, suppliers, partner ecosystems, and investment intentions of tier 2 and tier 3 cloud service providers of varying types, including managed service providers (MSPs), systems integrators (SIs), independent software vendors (ISVs), infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) providers, platform-as-a-service (PaaS) providers, and others globally.
This document provides a deep dive into the different stages tier 2 and tier 3 cloud service providers are at with their environmental sustainability strategies, including commitments to achieving net zero targets. It also offers insights into the different factors that are driving service provider commitments to specific sustainability goals. The reasons behind service providers' adoption of sustainability initiatives are diverse and include the importance of national, regional, or industry-specific regulatory requirements and the need to meet the demands and expectations of customers, investments, and ecosystem partners.
