Abstract
This IDC Perspective discusses a new vision for physical security technology. Generative AI (GenAI) is quickly evolving to provide a conversational interface to physical security applications. This will enable physical security applications to blend into the background with a commensurate improvement in both security and organizational effectiveness. Selecting vendors that can support this vision is essential to reap the maximum benefit from physical security as well as promoting a pleasant working environment.
"Physical security applications provide not only organizational safety but also valuable telemetry to business analysis activities," notes Mike Jude, IDC research director for Video Surveillance and Vision Applications. "Now, physical security is also evolving into an interface to most business activities. The key to making physical security an invisible background function is to employ generative AI to simplify and democratize the use of physical security for business purposes."
