Abstract
This IDC Survey examines worldwide IT and LOB buyer sentiment related to spending — and overspending — across the consumption of PaaS data and PaaS developer services. This IDC Survey document is based on responses from 888 decision makers in North America, Asia/Pacific, and Europe, who were polled in March/April 2023. The research shows a significant difference in worldwide versus North America sentiment on overspending on PaaS. It indicates a stronger confidence in the value of PaaS consumption in North America. The research also shows that IT and LOB both indicate that their organization's primary public cloud provider is the most strategic technology partner for their business. This alignment has important implications for go-to market planning, showing a general market trend toward alignment among IT and LOB decision makers when it comes to the role of cloud providers as mission-critical partners.
The data in this document is part of a much larger data set developed by IDC's Global Technology Thought Leadership Group, which conducts a monthly survey (IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey) to understand how IT and business leaders in enterprises around the world are assessing risks and addressing cost management for their growing portfolio of technology resources. This March/April 2023 data represents Wave 3 of the 2023 survey cycle; IDC asked IT decision makers to indicate how concerns about inflation, recession, skills shortages, and other developments affected 2023 budget decisions. We also asked about their plans related to several other topics, including use of cloud marketplaces. Additional documents will be published across a range of IDC research programs reporting on other dimensions of Wave 3 results.
