Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight highlights how product manufacturers measure success for new product introductions (NPIs) across multiple industries. Manufacturers were asked to rank the importance of 10 key performance indicators (KPIs) for measuring NPI success. For purposes of clarity, manufacturers have been segmented into four value chains (two for continuous process manufacturing and two for discrete manufacturing): asset-oriented and brand-oriented value chains (AOVC and BOVC) and engineering-oriented and technology-oriented value chains (EOVC and TOVC). This document shows KPI results by value chain, allowing manufacturers to evaluate the NPI metrics they are using. This document also provides insights for technology vendors as they consider key features and sales messages for software applications.

Data for this document comes from IDC's 2023 Product and Service Innovation Survey and provides responses from 445 PLM decision-makers.
