Abstract
This IDC Perspective provides feedback from Fortune 2000 organizations on the top criteria they utilized to select partners for their multicloud management initiatives. IDC conducted nearly 30 in-depth interviews with varying enterprises and government entities across the world. Through the interviews, IDC sought to gain insight into how the organizations approached multicloud management and what criteria they used to help navigate service provider selection. The interviews spanned 11 industries — high tech, education, utilities, financial services, government, healthcare, manufacturing, professional services, retail, telecommunications, and transportation — across 10 countries, namely, Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Finland, India, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
"Enterprises are forced to manage a complex set of IT and cloud resources. These involve managing different cloud operating models across private, public, and hybrid clouds as well as cloud platforms such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. Using third-party service providers can help enterprises overcome cloud services management challenges. However, using third-party services can also create added layers of management complexity. As a result, enterprises must ensure they fully comprehend the nuances of varied multicloud management strategies and establish robust communication and governance models to fully harness the benefits of managed multicloud services." — Pete Marston, research director, IDC's Worldwide Intelligent Application Services
