Abstract

This IDC study looks at how companies can deploy wearables that monitor social distancing and contact tracing, as well as wearables that monitor wearer health for potential signs of illness. This includes looking at how these devices work, what hardware and infrastructure are involved, which vendors are offering wearable solutions, who the stakeholders are, and the change management challenges involved.

"Companies should consider these devices in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially if they have employees who routinely and frequently come in contact with others," says Ramon T. Llamas, research director for IDC's Wearables team. "The process of monitoring workers — either for health or social distancing reasons or both — is ripe for digital transformation, eliminating the guesswork of contact tracing, and speeding the process of quarantining, even before users manifest symptoms."
