Abstract
This IDC Perspective discusses three key characteristics that can be used to evaluate and select workloads for cloud migration during the early phase of a cloud adoption journey. This extends research IDC has built as part of its Cloud Infrastructure Index study of service provider infrastructure and the factors that influence build versus rent decisions at service providers.
"Enterprise IT organizations typically have a portfolio of existing software applications, and these applications cannot be immediately discarded as they adopt public cloud," said Deepak Mohan, research director, Cloud Infrastructure Services at IDC. "Migration of these existing applications is a critical component of the cloud adoption journey, and careful selection of workloads to move during the early phase can act as a catalyst to the overall cloud adoption momentum."
