Abstract
This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation is a revised version of the keynote presented at the 2024 IDC European Utilities Xchange in Frankfurt, Germany, on March 11–12, 2024.
The presentation is a primer on quantum computing for a utilities audience. It introduces the basic definitions and fundamental principles of quantum computing technology, highlighting the change of paradigm it promises with respect to classical computing. It includes an analysis of the maturity of the technology. The report explains which types of problems are best-suited for running on quantum computing and a list of relevant use cases for the utilities industry. The presentation concludes with a glance at the quantum initiatives of four of Europe’s largest electric utilities.
