Abstract
This market presentation details how the threat landscape has expanded with the advent of AI-powered attack vectors, the maturation of the AI attack life cycle, AI use cases in cybersecurity, concerns of Asia/Pacific chief information security officer (CISOs) regarding emerging risks, benefits they seek from AI-powered cybersecurity solutions, and challenges they foresee. Additionally, it explores CISOs' budget allocation for AI-powered cybersecurity, types of data they are comfortable sharing with vendors, priorities, and investment areas. This presentation also highlights some innovative technology suppliers paving the way by creating groundbreaking cybersecurity use cases in the AI ecosystem.
The data in this document is sourced from the IDC's 2024 Asia/Pacific Security Survey, with a sample size of 600 business-to-business (B2B) organizations in Asia/Pacific. The respondents were senior IT management responsible for IT security across the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI), manufacturing, retail trade and wholesale, healthcare services, professional services, communications and media, and government verticals.
"AI is playing a dual role in cybersecurity, acting both as an attacker and a defender. From data harvesting to model training, automated exploitation, and adaptive persistence, the scale and sophistication of AI-driven attacks are rapidly increasing. Meanwhile, the opportunity to leverage AI for defense is expanding, with 82.6% of enterprises in Asia/Pacific expressing concerns about AI-powered social engineering campaigns, particularly impersonation attacks. About 33% of enterprises allocate at least 11% of their total cybersecurity budget to AI-based defense mechanisms. Less mature markets are allocating smaller budgets, whereas more advanced markets are investing significantly more. A critical challenge for enterprises in the region, however, is the lack of skilled personnel to manage AI solutions," says Sakshi Grover, senior research manager for cybersecurity products and services, IDC Asia/Pacific.
