Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight, based on the IDC Future Enterprise and Resiliency Survey, Wave 2, April 2023, highlights the top business areas where utilities companies believe generative AI (GenAI) will make the most impact in the next 18 months. GenAI refers to a subtype of AI systems that can create content by using large models that are pretrained on vast amounts of data. GenAI is a form of AI that operates on a much larger scale than traditional AI, using massive models and data sets to produce complex outputs, such as videos and text. Utilities companies have shown an interest in increasing investments in GenAI as they seek to drive greater operational efficiency and productivity by streamlining and automating processes.
